04.21.2011 – Update

Hello Kind People!

Double Album!!!  Well…Kind of…

Just a quick update from the A.Autumn camp…Well!!!  I am Thrilled to annouce that the next ArthurAutumn record will be completed next month, with a release this summer!!!  I will be flying into Michigan in May to put the final touches upon the album…It will be a busy time running through the songs with a fine tooth comb, recording, working out the proper sequence of songs, sifting through potential titles (although I know what it is already!!!) and looking through some sketches for the albums artwork & jacket…Keep a lookout for more detailed updates on the making of the record, the songs, and new website!!!

Also…As some of you may know I have been working with a new ROCKANDROLL BAND out here in California as well…We are currently finishing up our debut album under the name BARBARIAN OVERLORDS and have scheduled a few shows here and there to gain our Sea Legs…A release date of the record is expected also this summer…You can find more info @ barbarianoverlords.com & on facebook, in the meantime…

Stay tuned!!!

And Bee Kind…

11.30.2010 – Update

Hello Everyone!

Just wanted to give you an update on the happenings.  All is progressing quite nicely on both records.  It is always AMAZING to me watching them take shape.  Songs & sounds that started as a sketch in a notebook, then in some cases, a geetar in hand, a piano, a coffee table & a voice.  Please pardon the no performances for the time being, as the recordings are developing.  Although!  In the meantime, I will be reuniting with the band in Michigan for a Holiday show on December 17th, in the Detroit area.  Do make it if you can, marathon set, and many friends jumping on stage!

Look for shows into the new year!

Stay well…
Arthur

08.23.2010 – Update
Hello Kind People…

I apologize for being a bit out of touch as of the past few months…There is very good reason for it, as I’ll explain.  The last handful of months have been a very busy creative time for me, and the work has really just begun.  In April or so, I began work with a brand new ROCKANDROLL band.  We got some rehearsal space, and learned a handful of songs from artists who have inspired us.  In a way, it was like getting to know each other as people and musicians, and learning from the artists we were studying.  By May, we had begun work on our own material, and have been plugging away since.  The sounds & textures from this new band will be like nothing you have heard from me in the past.  As an artist, it has always been very important to me to stretch out, explore new sounds & push yourself into new directions.  That is how we keep it fresh for us, and interesting for the audience.  Some may like this new direction, some may not, makes no difference to me.  It is all part of the growing process.  We are currently recording our first record, with a release expected, oh say…next summer.  I can’t be more excited about this new material, new direction, as we carry on to explore the sounds in our head…

In addition, as of last week or so, I have begun the follow-up to StyrofoamPillsHeartbreakShaker.  This will also be a departure from the first record.  A different vibe, with maybe the sounds of the West dancing about the album.  You can certainly expect a new direction, and some curve balls thrown in.  It has been a bit of time since the first record, much too long, but the time is right.  Some of the songs have been written over the past few years, during my adjustment to California.  Sometimes it is best to let new inspiration seep into your veins, and in your heart, let it simmer, then translate how you feel into song.  All part of it.  Some have been written over the past few months, and some may be written moments before the record button is pushed.  It is never really possible to know when inspiration may come your way, or in what form, we just work to capture it when it does, and when the time is right.  As these records develop, I will surely keep you posted, oh… maybe post some interesting moments in this venture of sound as we go along.  Look for this record in the Spring/Summer of the upcoming year…

All for now…Much work to be done.

Bee Kind & Take care of each other.

Try to have some fun once & a while!

Word!
Arty

01.26.10 – UPDATE AND NEW SHOWS
Hi…
Chances are if you are reading this right now, you are sitting in front of your computer…Maybe you have got a cup of tea, or a bottle of wine to your right or left…The Lovely smell of incense may be filling the room, and your favorite record spins gently in the background, be it PatsyCline, Jay-Z, Digable Planets, (what!?! not a clue where that came from!?!) or in my case Sir George Harrison, yesterday anyway, today Neil Young…Or maybe you are watching your doggy chase it’s favorite toy across the room, or your daughter may be dancing a bout your room practicing her ballet..Maybe dear friends or co-workers are scattered a bout the room, relaxed…just being…Your television may be in the background delivering vital and worthy information, we can only hope…A telephone may be ringing, or a knock @ the door from an eager expected guest, someone is calling your name from the back of the room, as soup settles on the stove…You get the idea…?  Your a bright people, I’d bet you do…Your blessed with a roof over your head, luxuries that may be big or small, a place to be, and food upon your table…
That leads me to this message…As you are all well aware of, the Haitian people were struck by disaster on Jan. 12th of astronomical proportions…Unreal…Unimaginable…and Uncomprehendable…It seems unfair to me, that a land and people were rocked so hard, and left with just about nothing…I am proud of this country for reaching out and responding so quickly…It seems as though we have learned some lessons in response from the past…In an area that has seen it’s struggles for some time now…And now this…As you read this message, I am currently in the process of organizing an evening of Music & Art to benefit the people of Haiti, who so need us right now…I have been fortunate to meet a handful of gifted songwriters out here in California, and together we will do what we can…On Friday, Feb. 26th in Santa Monica California @ a venue called Trip, we will assemble and gather in song and art…It is a time for us all to stand up & reach out our hands…There is much we can do @ this time, whether we see it as big or small, it can all help promote new growth in Haiti…Whether it is school kids baking a batch of cookies for a Haiti bakesale (which I witnessed out here), or putting together a fundraiser @ your local community center, or donating your time or sending what you can…
I cannot Thank all the artists on the bill enough, and I am Thrilled to have all of them joining me…The line-up will be finalized very soon, and each and everyone of them will be recognized very soon…Plenty of special musical moments are being planned, with many a kazoo, glockenspiels, wood blocks, casio keyboards, more cow bell, triangle, recorders, key-tars, and elephants in leg warmers!  Ok…So maybe I got a little carried away there!  Though, indeed some moments are being planned…I will also have a handful of my paintings present as well, with any proceeds going to Haiti…
I do so hope that you can join us on this very special evening, we will need your help…If you do not live in the LosAngeles area, though you would have liked to have been in the room, there is something you can do…In the spirit of the evening you can visit oxfam.org or redcross.org and do what you can…Tell them Arthur sent you…
Further info and specific details to arrive soon…Please stay tuned in…
Oh! And get that bake sale going!!!  They need us…Reach out your hands…
There is much we all can do, if we try, be it big or smalll…And in the words of David Bowie:

Yo…
Just a really quick update from California. Had the opportunity to meet a few very talented film makers out here and I have been working with them a bit. In the next month or so we should have some footage to share with all of you. Gotta fish through it and see what we find. In the meantime, a bit of footage is posted here. Remember, this is just basic, raw footage, straight from the camera, zero editing, so I encourage head phones. A few weeks back in Venice, we were able to film the whole show, the one I did with The Bell Jar, so you may see more soon. More news to come. Feel free to stop by myspace.com/arthurautumn, some new photos posted, and I try my best to keep things updated.
Bee well…
Later everybody…

01.31.08 – News and Updates
Hi Everybody!
Just felt as though it was time to give you all an update from the A.Autumn camp. California has been treating me very, very well. Took a short break as I arrived in the West to adjust. Well, now it’s back to work I go. I have been working on some new material that will be making their faces known in the coming shows. In addition, I was able to find some musicians to help create a slightly different sound with new dynamics, and what not. Strings to be exact, and a keyboard here and there. Pretty talented folks, I am really excited to work with. Concerning that, I have decided to name any band or group of musicians I have the opportunity to work with: The Bell Jar. I hope they don’t mind! Who wants to be a bell jar anyway?!  So, chances are this will be a group of different instruments and rotating musicians that will join me on stage throughout the years. The Bell Jar was a group of writings from the late Sylvia Plath. I will be claiming The Bell Jar as my own, to signify talented folks playing instruments until her estate comes and takes it away from me!
So there you have it.  You got the goods.
Here are the shows. More to be announced…

11.27.07 – Well Hello Everyone!
Really loving California, and I seem to be adjusted well. I have had the opportunity to play a handful of shows up and down California to get my feet wet. I have met some pretty fantastic musicians out here and they have been so kind to me and helpful. Just like anything else, there is so much more work whenever you move to a totally different area. So, I will be taking a bit of a break from performing to focus my attentions on finding musicians, and work on some new unfinished material. If you happen to be a musicians in the Los Angeles area and your interested in playing out and eventually recording, don’t be shy and contact me soon…!
Alrightee!  Signing off for now…
I’ve got work to do…!
See ya’ll after the new year…

10.12.07 – Update
Hi Everyone,
As most of you have already heard, I am now living in California, the Los Angeles area.  How is it you ask?  Amazing. I am really enjoying everything that California has to offer. I am taking a bit of time before writing again. Although, I probably have half an albums worth of unfinished tracks. Again, I will be waiting for the right time. I really want to refrain from writing any “giddy” uninspired California songs. Ya know, the ones where California is in the lyric. I’ll pass on that, been done a million times…
In the meantime, I may test out a few new songs here and there, and everywhere. Gonna play as much as I can. With that in mind, if ya’ live out West come check out a show.
Oh Yes, Michigan.  Have not forgotten about you all. You are imbedded in my heart like the thorn from a rose bush. Maybe, maybe see ya’ this winter.
Bye everybody, please be kind…

07.16.07 – My Love Letter to Michigan
Hello Everyone,
Guess I have some explaining to do.  Goodness golly, where to start.  Oh where to start.  The last few months have been so heavy emotionally for me.  I’ve got all these random thoughts scrawled about, just waiting to be spoken for, calling me from the back of the room.  It feels as though my mind has been sucked in a vacuum filled with puzzles and equations for me to dissect.  Hmmm…This is starting to sound a bit Jack Kerouac-ish.  Please pardon me, but this happens to be one of the most important letters I have ever had to ponder upon…
After a few years of tremoundous thought and consideration, I have decided to move to California.  In recent years I have stood idle and watched as mom and pop records shops close, art spaces close, venues close.  It is heartbreaking to be on the sidelines and watch these things happen and it feels as though the walls are closing in and the room is even smaller than it was to begin with.  Now, maybe I have worn out my welcome, but either way the wind blows and the West calls.  Goodness knows, I’ve tried.  So the band played on for 7 years, continuing the play the Midwest, put out albums, all the while leaving blood, sweat and tears on each stage.  I released an album on my own, with a 180 degree turn about.  But the truth is, it feels as though things are folding up like a care table someone has forgotten about, the kind ya’ sat at as a kid, the scars and stains not enough to sustain.
Now, I’ve met some fantastic folks here the last few months.  Naturally.  Whether it be musicians or new friends.  I am so fortunate for all of them.  Nothing would break my heart more than to have someone think I am leaving because I think I am too good for this place.  It is not like that at all.  Golly, I don’t want to sound ungrateful or shall I say pretentious.  I just feel as though I can’t grow musically or as a person.  We all want to grow right? As an artist I feel the need to constantly change and reinvent myself, and I no longer feel as though I can around here.  Ya’ know, I want to be able to stretch out like a folding chair in the burning sun.  Or one of those gummy, rubber things ya’ got as a kid, that you would wet and throw against the wall and they would stick.  Well, after a while they would get dirty and collect hair and rubbish on them, then no longer worked.  I feel blessed that I am able to write songs for people to hear and take home with them, as difficult as it may seem to be sometimes.
Come this fall, I will be on a tour across this country we call home.  Kinda starting from the town I grew up in (don’t ask, don’t talk about) through to Chicago, and will settle in Venice Beach, where my eyes lit up in the first place.  I am fortunate for this opportunity and it feels as though there is someone kind waiting for me in each city.  Thank You to my family, my band, my friends, all of the musicians I have felt honored to work with…Thank You.  To the lovely folks who have helped me book some shows for the tours…Thank You.  Can’t name any names, seems like when I do, I forget someone, feelings get hurt, I get bad mail, or bad conversation.  Never feels good.  So…THANK YOU all!!! My California door is always open.  I just ask you don’t laugh when I try to surf…
Sorry so long, but in this digital age we have so many opportunities to communicate with those we care about.  Just wanted to share some thoughts, some appreciation and a lot love.  After all, isn’t that what life is all about.  Sometimes that’s all we’ve got…
“Throw my ticket out the window, throw my suitcase out there too…Throw my troubles out the door, I don’t need them anymore…” B.Dylan
Check the tour schedule and see ya’ on the road!!!
Thanks for reading and listening…

Hello all!!!

What up ya’ll,
Thank you to Josh Woodland, (Studiotone brother) for finishing up
all bass tracks for the album this weekend. Superb job sir. Also, thank
you to Micaela for coming down to the studio and lending her beautiful voice to a few tracks. She is a wonderful singer/songwriter in her own right, I am sure you will hear much more from her in the future.
Hope to see you all at the shows in the next few weeks. I will be giving away one tune from the album, as well as a version of a Cat Stevens song Zack and I recorded this weekend. I have always adored the song, it was great to have the opportunity to record it. (See discography section to listen to the track) After about a thousand + steps in writing and recording an album, we are about four steps away from completion. Closer, warmer!!!

Hello Everyone,
My name is Brent A Nuffer and I would like to introduce you to a new project I have been working on for the past year or so with my friend Zack Pearce. The project is called Arthur Autumn. I also play in a band called Studiotone. Studiotone is more of a rock band with a louder sound, which I love all the same. This project is a bit quieter and moodier as you will find. Think of it as Studiotone’s Step-Brother or Sister, but without the sibling rivalry.
I am writing all of the songs, aside from a few collaborations here and there. I have always wanted to explore the more folksy, ambient side of the music that I grew up on and enjoy listening to. Think in the vein of, and influenced by, Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Cat Stevens and Ryan Adams.
Zack and I have been recording at his Lansing studio, and the album is over half way completed. Slowly but surely, the record is coming along and the songs are coming into shape. I am uncertain of a release date as of yet, but recording should be finished in the next few months or so. In the meantime, I’ve posted some unpolished sample clips, just to give you an idea of what to expect of the album’s sound.
Okay… just a bit of background information for you. I hope I did not bore you too terribly. I am very excited about the record and it’s release. I will do my best to keep you all informed of the records release, shows, the band and all of the things that go with it. This is a new and different journey for me and I hope you can all come along. Until then, be kind to each other and thank you for your interest and support.
Bye Bye,
Brent A.
